Connecticut pays homeowners to keep batteries ready for the grid's busiest hours. Here is how it works.
Money off before you start
The state's Energy Storage Solutions program pays an up-front incentive for every kWh of storage. It comes straight off your price, and the program pays it to us, so you never wait for it.
Then it pays you, for ten years
On the grid's busiest afternoons, the program calls on your battery to share some of its stored energy, and pays you for every one of those events for ten years.
About 55 events a year
Around 50 between June and September and a handful in winter, usually 1 to 3 hours each, between 3 and 9 p.m. Your battery handles it on its own. There is nothing for you to do.
Never before a storm
Events are called off ahead of predicted severe weather, so your battery is full when you might need it most.
Paid twice a year
Your utility pays you after the summer season and after the winter season. We show it as a monthly average so you can set it beside a loan payment. What you are paid depends on the power your battery delivers during events.
We do the paperwork
We file the application and the commissioning paperwork the program needs, so the up-front money comes off your price and the payments reach you.
